Korean Reds Assail Hodge (한국의 공산당이 하지를 공격하다)

SEOUL, Korea, Jan.5 (Delayed)(U.P.).―Pak Heun Yung, general secretary of the Korean Communist Party, today charged Lieutenant General John R. Hodge, American forces commander in Korea, with undemocratic actions and proposed the eventual inclusion of Korea into the Soviet Union as an independent republic.(조선공산당 비서 박헌영은 5일 미군사령관 하지 중장의 비민주적 처사에 대해 비난하면서 독립국으로서 조선의 소연방 가입을 주장했다.)

It was the first press conference held by the Communist leader. He charged General Hodge with “suppression of true democratic principles and a too liberal attitude to reaction.”(공산당 지도자로서의 첫 번째 기자회견에서 그는 하지가 진정한 민주주의 정신을 억제하며 반동적인 행위에 대해서는 너무 관대한 태도를 취하고 있다고 비난했다.)

Pak advocated the inclusion of an independent, democratic Korea into the U.S.S.R. in 10 to 20 years. He said immediate incorporation is “not possible because the Korean people do not favor this.”(박헌영은 민주주의적 독립 조선은 10~20년 사이에 소련에 포함될 것을 지지했다. 그는 “조선 인민이 좋아하지 않기 때문에 즉시 가입은 가능하지 않다”고 말했다.)

The Communist Leader also said he had no objection to a single-nation trusteeship by the Soviet Union over Korea. The Moscow Foreign Ministers Conference proposed a dual United States-Russian trusteeship.(공산당 지도자는 또 소연방에 의한 조선의 일국 신탁통치를 반대하지 않는다고 말했다. 모스크바 외상회의는 미소 양국에 의한 신탁통치를 제안하고 있다.)
